# Evaluate document evidence

> Request Vanta AI evaluation of all files and URLs in the document's current draft.
Returns 202 when the request is accepted, or 204 when a matching successful
evaluation already exists. Both responses have an empty body.

Retrieve the results with GET /documents/{documentId}/evaluation. GET returns 404
when no matching evaluation outcome is available; poll with a bounded timeout.

Repeated requests for the same evidence set are deduplicated and will not trigger
multiple evaluations.

Evaluations are disabled for sensitive documents.
Vanta AI and evidence evaluation must be enabled for your organization.
Saved evaluation failures and unmet evaluation preconditions return a
standard 422 error.
